Flores and Komodo - World Heritage of Dragon Komodo & Primitive Village

Flores is named " flowers " described by Portuguese when occupied on this small island, flores was ideally describes the beauty to be found on this island. This long island between Sumbawa and Timor is crowded with volcanoes and mountains divided into several bright regions with individual languages and traditions. Predominantly Catholic and much influenced by the Portuguese, there are many examples of cultural heritage and strong European and contained Larantuka Easter procession and the royal insignia of the former king in Maumere.

Kelimutu is a small volcano with three summit crater lakes of different colors. Tiwi Ata Mbupu (Lake of Elders) is blue, Tiwu Nua Muri Kooh Tai (Lake of Youth and Maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (spell lake), which shares a common wall of the crater, has been historically green-and red-colored, respectively

A small island of 280 square km, Komodo is located between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores. The island is mostly barren hill and less palm and some wood, but is famous for its giant lizards called Komodo, which is considered the last of its kind left in the world today

To many modern naturalists, East Nusa Tenggara is so interesting especially because of this unique species, called the Komodo Dragon. Called "ora" by local people, the "dragon" Komodo (Varanus Komodoensis) is really a giant lizard. Growing 3-4 feet long, its ancestors roamed the earth makes about half a million years.

Komodo lives in carrion of goats, deer, and even the carcasses of their own class. The only thing the human population on the island is in the fishing village called Komodo who supplement their income breeding goats which are used to feed the lizards. The Komodo is protected by law and though they are considered safe, it should keep them away. Komodo is now a nature reserve is part of a national park. Is home to several rare species of bird, deer and wild pigs, which are prey to the lizards as well.

 
Komodo NP

The Komodo National Park is a national park in Indonesia located within the Lesser Sunda Islands in the border region between the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. The park includes the three larger islands Komodo, Padar and Rincah, and 26 smaller ones, with a total area of 1,733 km² (603 km² of it land). The national park was founded in 1980 in order to protect the Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard. Later it was dedicated to protecting other species, including marine species. In 1991 the national park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Flores Man - Homo Floresiensis

It sounds too incredible to be true, but this is not a hoax. A species of tiny human has been discovered, which lived on the remote Indonesian island of Flores just 18,000 years ago. Researchers have unearthed remains from individuals who were just one metre tall, with grapefruit-sized skulls. These astonishing little people, nicknamed 'hobbits', made tools, hunted tiny elephants and lived at the same time as modern humans who were colonizing the area.

Mt. Kelimutu

Mt. Kelimutu is a volcano, close to the town of Moni in central Flores Island of Indonesia containing three summit crater lakes of varying colors. Tiwu Ata Mbupu (Lake of Old People) is usually blue and is the westernmost of the three lakes. The other two lakes, Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai (Lake of Young Men and Maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched or Enchanted Lake) are separated by a shared crater wall and are typically green or red in color, respectively. The lake colors do vary on a periodic basis. Subaqueous fumaroles are the probable cause of active upwelling that occurs at the two eastern lakes.
